DELL Latitude D420 versus HP Compaq nc2400
The laptop has become an integral part of our lives, and more people appreciate the compactness and autonomy. Niche maximum compact notebooks was somewhat successfully completed by netbooks. Partly because Intel atom is nice and economical processor, but is far from the performance of any laptop with a Pentium M processor – this is seen by many of our previous tests. Pentium M (Centrino) laptop, although the ratio unbeatable performance / economy remains in the past of computer technology. Market demand high performance, compact, economical and most autonomous laptops. Such laptops are positioned in the image class and are significantly more expensive than models with normal size and standard processors. The most prominent representatives of this class of mini-expensive laptops are Sony VAIO TZ, Toshiba Portege R500, Lenovo Thinkpad X300. These are powerful laptops with ULV (Ultra Low Voltage) Dual Core processors, weighing about 1kg., 12-inch matrix exclusive design. In this review we chose to test mini-laptops with more modest prices, but the uncompromising quality of DELL and HP Compaq. These are representatives of business-class manufacturer of both large and not image laptops, as mentioned above extremely expensive mini-laptops. Quality of workmanship and reliability in operation between image maker and expensive business model is a high class of comparable level, the difference is mainly in design. Short will present participants in today’s test overview: DELL Latitude D420 – noble very nice design (metal casing, solid craftsmanship), bright display with a high of 12 inches resolution (1280h800), quiet operation. The processor is Intel Dual Core U2500 (ULV 1.2GHz, 2MB), which unlike its bigger brothers is working with reduced voltage, but has retained the advantages of the Core architecture. Video system is outdated now, but productive enough Intel GMA950. The laptop is pretty quiet, radiation is not felt. The keyboard is firm and dry (typically about DELL), joystick is quite far from the level of the IBM Thinkpad and Toshiba Tecra. DELL sound of each is quite mediocre, is no exception and D420. Troubling is the lack of optical drive. DELL Latitude series supplied by his great batteries, our model is not new, but the battery earning over 3 hours; HP Compaq nc2400 – business-class HP e of simple, reliable and robust as the ThinkPad – MAGNESIUM chassis and metal elements to enhance the body, stylish and slim design. Nc2400 hardware is “twin” of DELL Latitude D420 – Intel Dual Core U2500, Intel GMA950. The laptop is absolutely silent in operation, the body is cold and in the most severe loads. Unlike the D420 sound system has more musical sound, the keyboard is more comfortable, the lack of touch-drop is offset by the excellent joystick. The size of the HP Compaq nc2400 is more compact than those of DELL D420, because of the lack of touch-pod. On the other hand, despite its miniature size, the laptop has an optical drive – DVD / CDRW. The screen is very high quality – bright, saturated colors and better visual angles. The battery is hard – with its low voltage dual core laptop could spend about 5 hours; DELL Latitude D410 – the predecessor of the D420, which although has a 12-inch matrix is much larger than the D420. D410 e fairly recent machine with DDR2, full Pentium M 1.73GHz with 2MB cache, Intel GMA900. The design is the same as the newer D420. The weight is solid and rather close to 2 kilograms. Than to 1kg.; IBM ThinkPad X40 – extremely compact and lightweight laptop. Very nice design, magnesium body, titanium components, the most convenient mobile keyboard an ideal in combination with a joystick – a true Thinkpad. ULV Pentium M 1.2GHz processor with 2MV cache is quite nimble for its frequency – true Dothan. Strong battery providing at least 4 hours autonomous operation. DELL Inspiron Mini 9 – and we included a popular netbook in our review to make it comparable with the most compact laptops representatives. We describe our model in other reviews – a beautiful, bright display with high resolution, ATOM HT processor, Intel GMA950.
