IBM undoubtedly the most innovative computer (and only) company in the global industry. However, this article will describe a record number of Nobel prizes, which owns the American company and will focus on a specific computer area where IBM Thinkpad and their series were not only pioneers, but until recently and sole leaders such as technology and quality. These are mobile graphics tablet (laptop). The first tablet laptops are available from IBM back in 1993 and these are models Thinkpad 750P / 360P. This article will present one of the best tablets of the IBM / Lenovo – model Thinkpad X61 Tablet, which is the last graphics tablet, bearing the logo of IBM. Not describe well again shell and excellent keyboard on this model, because it just did it in the review of the Thinkpad X60, which is not a tablet, but is quite similar in design and assembly. Feature and seemingly weak point of mobile tablet laptop hinge (two degrees of freedom) connecting the electromagnetic display cabinet. Manufacturers of graphics tablets are not random companies and their devices meet the highest standards of quality, so that pivoting hinge is reliable, comparable and even superior to that of the standard hinges on a laptop (even the ones in Thinkpad) .
The diagram above you see the hinge of the Thinkpad X200, but the picture – hinges Thinkpad X61 Tablet. Even from these images to see how reliable quality and are designed metal mobile compounds in the Thinkpad.
Far less reliable, however, have movable joints of non-GUI touchscreen laptop, which is normal to the substantially cheaper implementation. Our main goal in this article is to introduce to you the difference between a real image (electromagnetic) touchscreen tablet and standard laptop as the Thinkpad X61 Tablet can operate in both modes. The difference between magnetic graphics tablet and touchscreen devices and mass as a principle of action, and precision work is very high. While the graphics tablet is a professional painting technique, design and engineering, the touchscreen laptops, phones and LCD monitors have one main purpose – to facilitate the management of technology. Despite this fundamental difference, the term “tablet” because of high marketing value applies to all displays, touch or other effects (optical, electromagnetic, acoustic). The history of graphic tablet (also called graphics tablet or a graphics pad, drawing tablet, digitizing tablet, digitizer, digitizer) is somewhat controversial – according to some sources this is computer Stylator (1957), others argue that RAND Tablet or Grafacon (Graphic by Converter) (1964). A major element of the graphic tablet is the network of wires, which registers the position of a special pen with extreme accuracy (up to 200 lines per mm). There are two basic operating principle of the graphic tablet: Electrostatic – registered locally change the electric potential of the network under the pen solenoid – pen emits an electromagnetic signal which is accepted by the network in the pen. In both cases, the pen must have power.
The modern history of graphic tablets began in Japan and devices offered by the world leader Wacom. The principle of operation of the Wacom tablet is simple and genius is based on electromagnetic resonance phenomenon, a network of wires simultaneously broadcast and input signal. Transmitted signal from the network using the power of the pen, which returns a signal carrying information about its position under pressure and orientation. Thus, a Wacom pen does not need its own power. No accident that electromagnetic pens are so expensive compared with the standard stylus toucsreen devices. So if you have a graphics tablet or plan to purchase one, very careful not to lose or damage his expensive pen, because even if eBay does not offer anything cheaper than 100 150 BGN. (And more expensive models of the Thinkpad for example). Also, if you buy second hand tablet, note that he has no pen just a laptop, and finding an original stylus is not an easy and inexpensive task, whatever the dealer says. A careless readers who like to write comments after photos and videos look likely still find no link between electromagnetic technology of Wacom and presentations in this article Thinkpad X61 Tablet.
Just such a device and Thinkpad X61 Tablet – screen below which is a matrix of wires that generate electromagnetic field power graphics pen. IBM and their receivers do not detect “hot water” and use the technology of Wacom. Thinkpad X61 Tablet is a real graphics tablet, based on the technology of Wacom, the principles of electromagnetic resonance. This is true graphic tablet, suitable for artists, designers, photographers, handwriting input. The electromagnetic technology is extremely accurate for professional work, but compared to the pseudo-tablet (touchscreen devices) will ease the management of his fingers and the ability to Multi Touch commands. Thinkpad X61 Tablet is a unique laptop that combines magnetic graphics tablet with capacitive touchscreen display. So in addition to using precision technology Wacom, you can easily and manage operating systems only through his fingers, including the Multi Touch Mode (hit a few points of contact).
Once we started this review with such theoretical part will briefly introduce you the difference between capacitive and resistive display touchscreen. In resistive Touchscreen devices than display a few extra layers caused them thin and transparent “wire” forming a grid of points. These additional layers and the separating layer coated with a spacing elastic half-spheres, much worse visibility and image quality. The top layer is elastic in contact with the stylus or finger is pressed and deformed layers underneath. Thus they are “short” at the point of pressure and this gives information on managing electronic circuit for the pressure coordinates. The disadvantage of this principle is relatively high effort required for the registration of impact, and significant wear of the surface after intensive use. For capacitive Touchscreen display devices over again bear, transparent conductors, forming a coordinate system of points – ie. capacitive sensors. In bringing the finger or stylus suited to the part of the display, the capacity at this point is increased and this is registered by the control electronics. Thus determine the coordinates of the touch. This technology also resistive and does not offer great precision because of the limited number of capacitive sensors on the display and the fact that the points close to that of touch also change their capacity and control electronics are not always able to respond.

Design of the X41 Tablet is traditional for IBM, as many points and very light thin Thinkpad X40. The platform is relatively recent and now Intel Alviso i915GM graphic solution Intel GMA900. The processor is a low-frequency Pentium M LV 758 with working frequency of 1.5GHz. Despite the relatively low frequency, it is true Dothan processor with 2MB cache and 533Mhz bus. Available memory is DDR2, laptop works in dual channel mode, which allows the graphics core built to show relatively good performance. Let us recall that the GMA900 has hardware acceleration for HDTV. Unlike some of the latest IBM Thinkpad T43, cooling is a Thinkpad X41 tablet and keep silent in normal temperature ranges.
Keyboard and other control elements are typical for IBM – the most convenient and high. However, with personal impressions of the tablet keyboard is firmer than most models of the T-series.
Deserves special commendation joints crapped rolling screen – no slack and the impression of reliability, something that is missing of tablets as the Toshiba. Most attention in this deserves the perfect tablet IPS (AFFS) matrix. Fantastic color, contrast and viewing angles, and unmatched performance for the best TN + Film displays. The resolution is “banal” 1024 * 768, which however is sufficient for 12-inch laptop. ArtRage painting program on this laptop is a real pleasure. The sensitivity of the magnetic matrix and the powerful hardware without problems to deal with all the tools for drawing, and even quick sketches are displayed instantly on screen. We must mention however that funtsii Tablet Windows XP Tablet Edition are weaker than those of Windows Vista and more than Windows 7. On equal terms as hardware and software applications, Windows XP Tablet Edition recognize text more slowly and with many more errors.
Tested by us Thinkpad X41 was equipped with enhanced battery, which, in combination with economically and with reduced voltage processor can earn around and over 4 hours of cordless use.
Model is available fingerprint scanner, which has an amazing ability to always recognize the correct entries and even fingerprint scanning speed is sufficient. IBM X41 Tablet leave the country only positive impressions – did not match any critical comments from the functionality, design and reliability. Once again we were amazed by the fantastic picture of AFFS display. IBM Thinkpad X41 Tablet has an excellent working APS – Active Protection System (sensor for acceleration and motion) parked on the hard disk reading chapters in extraordinary acceleration (eg drop the laptop).

The body is mainly made of metal, which, after hundreds of plastic models made me extremely impressed. Alone know how I am impressed by the articles in front of the composite hull IBM Thinkpad. Everything here is mostly metallic, very high quality and stylishly constructed. This is undoubtedly the most beautiful seen from my laptop. Interesting patterns from a new HP Pavilion series are available on the metallic housing. Hinge of the rotating touch-screen display is also very solid metal – there is no slack. Light is underway between the two parts – a display and lower body in the closed position due to the diligence of the engineers to make universal bilateral fastening. HP Pavilion tx1250 is the lightest of laptops, but this is due to the heavy and reliable material from which it was prepared. Dimensions themselves are very compact. Hardware. “The heart of the tx1250 is Mobile DualCore AMD Turion 64 X2 TL-56 1.8Ghz processor. Processor that powered the large 17-inch Pavilion dv9000 and I think it is unnecessary for a powerful mini-laptop. Video system is based on the NVidia GeForce Go 6150 64MB (288MB Turbo Cache). Video card is doing quite well with their tasks – from more modest games to decode the HD format (which decoding is done mainly by a powerful processor as cards with hardware support for HD are 8th series of NVidia up). The platform is based on the highly successful and reliable NForce 430. Stability of the platform very close to that of the Centrino Duo machine, so as big manufacturers like HP is such a trusted system. Display. 12-inch laptop screen is active – the touch screen. Certainly not as responsive and precise as a Tablet PC with a magnetic display, but is extremely easy to use, it can be activated with finger, not only with a stylish pen set. Recognition of the excellent text by Windows Vista and requires no additional software and settings. However, it is desirable to calibrate the driver area of contact, as usually the default settings by running the actual place of contact. A little irritating is that the calibration is valid only for one orientation of the display – desktop can rotate with the button on the display so as to transpose the settings of the calibration zone. Touchscreen cover decreased significantly the contrast of the display, but the picture is as excellent color reproduction and a real difference become evident only in direct comparison with the classic display. Multimedia – sound, camera, microphone. Audio system of the HP Pavilion TX1250 is exceptional quality. On one side are powerful and high quality stereo speakers from Altec Lansing with a pure and powerful sound on the other hand are unmatched by Intel-based platforms qualities NForce Audio. The camera of 1.3MPx is good only at day light and in no way differs from the cameras of larger Pavilion laptops. Two microphone near the camera and provide a stereo effect the listener. For me it is a little annoying, but other users will probably set them Did multimedia buttons on the body of the laptop. Media focus on stylish mini-notebook is complemented by a nice remote control.

IBM Thinkpad T43 laptop the last produced by IBM. Although the logo is legendary Thinkpad laptops live in the Chinese company Lenovo, quality and innovation are not at that level compared to competitors, as in the years before the 2005th. In fact Lenovo are a good manufacturer of laptops, albeit supported by powerful research development center of IBM. Printed materials for thousands of quality Thinkpad, many videos of extreme ruggedness and reliability of T-series can be found on the Internet. Only the quality of the Thinkpad meet the requirements of NASA, military applications, geophysical research, science and business. Each remaining choice of laptop was more of a compromise because of its lower price. This article will test the latest T-Series laptop to IBM. In our test lab we have two options placed on IBM Thinkpad T43 – Complete one standard video and Intel GMA900, other IBM T43 is equipped with a fingerprint scanner, a video card is ATI Mobility Radeon X300. It is interesting to note that the cheaper model has the logo of Lenovo, a more expensive T43 has a logo of IBM. Competition between the two versions of the T43 is not very interesting, so Test added in more modern laptop – dual DELL Latitude D420 and Netbook DELL Mini9, also participated in our test and HP Compaq nc6230 with a powerful Pentium M 2.00GHz, who also has a video system-ATI Radeon X300. Unlike our previous articles, we will not describe in detail block, a display, keyboard, design, etc. a Thinkpad T43. This is redundant to that just Thinkpad is a benchmark for all indicators, which are repeatedly comparing other laptops. Tests were conducted on OS – Windows XP Pro. Mentioning that Lenovo’s website helpfully provides drivers for all OS from DOS to Windows 7 for IBM Thinkpad T43. This is not observed in HP, DELL, Toshiba, or at least very least their models. So – IBM Thinkpad T43 is ideal for a comfortable keyboard, owns one of the strongest hulls built from magnesium, titanium and composite materials, copper completely silent cooling, zero-clearance hinges, slim and stylish body, constant screen, actual video.
