Hitachi TravelStar Z5K500 is the slimmest hard drive for laptops

The Japanese manufacturer Hitachi marketed slimmest hard drive for laptops. TravelStar Z5K500 is “fat” only 7 mm, but it offers impressive capacity of 500 GB. The model is implemented in 2.5-inch form factor and works with the speed of the spindle 5400 rpm. There are 8 MB of cache and Technology Advanced Format, which improves efficiency in the allocation of disk space. TravelStar Z5K500 a SATA-interface and consumes 1.8 watts in active use. Mechanical parts of the device generates only 2.1 dB noise. The first laptops with new disc will appear on the market early next year. The price of the model are not reported. Hitachi holds the current record for the slim hard drive. Its 320-gigabyte model has a thickness of only 9.5 mm.
